Subaru has announced yet another STI-branded special edition for the WRX S4 and the Levorg in Japan. The STI Sport R-Black Limited is the new flagship trim of the performance sedan and the mechanically-related wagon, adding black exterior accents, and a few extra goodies inside the cabin.

Starting with the exterior, the STI Sport R-Black Limited models are distinguished by the black finish of the mirror caps and the roof antenna. In the WRX, these are combined with black alloy wheels and the large rear wing, which are also standard on the STI Sport EX trim.

The color palette for both the WRX and the Levorg comprises eight shades, including a new Galaxy Purple Pearl option. The latter has also been available for the US-spec 2025 Subaru WRX tS and the BRZ Series. Purple, although in limited numbers.

Moving inside, the highlight is the black Recaro seats with the STI logo on the headrests. The buckets are wrapped in black Ultrasuede with red stitching, with the driver’s seat featuring eight-way power adjustment. Elsewhere in the cabin we find black leather upholstery combined with suede-like inserts on the dashboard and the door cards, and red contrasting stitching.

There are no changes under the hood, where we find the familiar turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder boxer, generating 271 hp (202 kW / 275 PS) and 375 Nm (276.6 lb-ft) of torque. Power is transmitted to all four wheels exclusively via a CVT featuring a virtual eight-speed manual mode.

Besides the special edition, Subaru has also introduced a few upgrades for the rest of the WRX S4 and Levorg lineups for the 2025 MY in the Japanese market, including a slightly improved ADAS suite.

The STI Sport R-Black Limited editions are already available to order priced at ¥5,302,000 ($34,700) for the WRX S4 and ¥5,368,000 ($35,200) for the Levorg. This represents an extra ¥275,000 ($1,800) compared to the STI Sport R EX trims they are based on.

As for the availability of the new special editions, Subaru plans on producing 250 units per month for the sedan and 900 units per month for the wagon.
